Call: Examples from the industry of successful revenue models and forms of collaboration through community engagement in energy and climate projects.

Energy Reinvented Community (ERC) members Marjolein Dieperink (AKD Advocaten), Dieuwke Martens (Antea Group) and Susan Kimkes (Energieke Communicatie and focus group chair) have joined forces to address, from the industry's perspective, the importance of societal engagement for energy transition and climate projects. From their different backgrounds (legislation, energy transition and industry), they are looking for successful practical examples of new business models and partnerships in the energy sector that enable participation by the local community.

From the focus group Community Engagement, they call upon professionals working on (sustainable) energy projects in which the development of new forms of collaboration or earning models has resulted in demonstrably innovative ideas about the relationship with stakeholders, has led to an environment-oriented approach and has successfully organised support. Or the other way around, where a different method of stakeholder management has led to new forms of collaboration or earning models.

Susan, Marjolein and Dieuwke: "We are not looking for new legislation or government policy, or for new initiatives from local residents. We are looking for examples from the industry where the task of realising a sustainable project with the involvement of the local community has been fulfilled. Interesting examples are those in which the industry has set up or adapted its own organisation (from project execution to management) to work with the environment in mind."

The idea is to present these ideas to the senior executives and members of ERC in spring 2022, in the hope that these ideas will give rise to an emphasis on the importance of participation and environment-based working at the start and during the implementation of projects in the energy transition. The aim is to develop five promising ideas in Q3 and Q4 2021. Submit your examples or initiatives via our website, susan@energyreinventedcommunity.com or our LinkedIn page, and we will contact you.
