ERC members visit Phynix platform

Yesterday Energy Reinvented Community members visited the Phynix platform in Eemshaven (Groningen), one of the Netherlands’ key energy hubs. The visit provided a valuable opportunity to exchange knowledge, explore Phynix’ utility and necessity and discuss the future of the energy system.

Now based in the dynamic Eemshaven, Phynix (formerly known as the BaseLoad Power Hub) is a pioneering hydrogen production and storage platform, providing the opportunity to test and advance offshore hydrogen technologies. Phynix demonstrates how hydrogen can enhance energy system resilience: by storing renewable energy as hydrogen and converting it back into electricity during periods of low generation or high demand, it can help support grid stability. Also, being a collaborative learning and research environment, Phynix plays an active role in educating and inspiring young people for a future in hydrogen.

The visit began with an introduction on Phynix, followed by a presentation about the HAEVENN program and its connection to the Phynix platform. A guided tour then offered participants a first-hand look at the platform.

Special thanks to David Molenaar (Delft Offshore Turbine (DOT)) and Geerte de Jong (New Energy Coalition) for their insightful presentations and guided tour.

Photo's and presentations from this event can be found in the member section of this website.

Next up: ERC’s event ‘From Friction to Flow’, on 16 April in De Loods (Rijswijk). We hope to see you there!
