FINANCE, OFFSHORE ENERGY FOCUS GROUP
The financial challenges facing offshore energy projects, in particular offshore wind and CCS, will be discussed and debated in the joint session of the Offshore Energy and Financing the Energy Transition Focus Groups.
Across North Sea countries, market conditions are making it increasingly difficult to develop new offshore wind assets. In Denmark, recent tenders closed without attracting any bids, while in the UK, Vattenfall suspended the Hornsea 4 project due to rising costs. Similar concerns are surfacing in the Netherlands.
In the CCS space, risk perception is also proving to be a barrier. For example, in the Aramis CCS project, Shell and TotalEnergies withdrew from the infrastructure component of the project, reportedly citing high risk exposure as the main factor. As cost pressures and investor uncertainty grow, a critical question emerges: how can we de-risk offshore energy projects and create bankable, investable opportunities in this sector?
This session, which is prepared by Offshore Energy Focus Group Lead René Peters and Financing the Energy Transition Focus Group Lead Joren Verkade, will include two presentations followed by a House of Commons debate with session participants.
During your registration for your event, please select the Focus Group that represents your main area of interest (Offshore Energy, Financing the Energy Transition).
